SAITA is an interactional educational program. Interns are encouraged to actively participate in discussions and demonstrations and should recognize that they share the responsibility with the farmer for making each farm visit a success. Furthermore, it is up to the interns to retain the education they receive at each farm. To make the most of the farm visit, interns should use this worksheet to record information about the farm operation.

During the farm visit, observe and describe these elements of the farm operation, if they apply:

• Type of farm

• Main crops, yields

• Soil management: tillage, composting, mulching, crop rotation, cover cropping

• Seedling production, greenhouses, season extenders

• Water supply and irrigation system

• Weed control, pest control, disease control

• Farming equipment

• Labor source

• Marketing and business administration

• Non-production acreage

• Housing for farmers, interns

• Livestock

• Value added processes

• Other observations
